Maitre trained in traditional painting and morphology drawing at the École des
Beaux-Arts in Paris (1998–2004), while also studying digital retouching at Gobelins
Paris (2002-2004) and archaeology at the Sorbonne (1999-2002). Alongside a
continuing career in commercial image retouching, he pursued fine art through
residencies at the Jan van Eyck Academie (2007–2008) and the Rijksakademie in
Amsterdam (2009–2010),
